A competition has a simple life cycle and it is important to understand how MyPhotoClub approaches this and the terminology used.

Collection – this term is used to refer to a group of competition sections that have a common opening and closing dates and settings.

State	Description	Activities
Not Open	The opening date has not been reached. An entrants can proceed to the entry form but they are prevented from uploading entries.d	Check that all content on the site is correct and adjust if you receive repetitive enquires.
Open	Between opening and closing dates. Entries can be made.	Monitoring entries while the competition is open.
Closed	The closing date has passed. This is the stage where judging/scoring can occur.	Depends on the judging method: Online Scoring – judges are sent an invite to score each image. When complete the awards are determined.
Finalised	This is the state where judging has been completed and results are finalised. This state is often used to produce result presentations. Each individual competition section has to be finalised in order for the collection to be set to this state.
Published	Results are now available to entrants. The catalog has been generated, and a results post is listed on the front page.
